This weekend Megan and Craig visited us! They were our first overnight guests in our house! Saturday morning we scrambled to get the upstairs guest room ready for them. I don't have a "before" picture, but imagine this room filled with boxes and with mattresses leaning agains the wall:

Megan and Craig wanted to help out with the house, and Dave and I wanted some moral support with choosing paint colors, so we went to Sherwin-Williams first. That night, we spent a long time discussing colors and color combinations. We are going to wait until we finalize our countertop choice to make our final decision. Here they are looking at color swatches.
We are thinking about some warm colors, like yellow or orange. For trim/accent colors we also some yellow-greens (as opposed to gray-greens) and a color called jalapeno. Megan and Craig were a huge help.

The plan for today was for the four of us to put the last skim coat of joint compound on the kitchen walls. M&C were great sports and got to work right after breakfast sanding/smoothing the walls in preparation for the joint compound.

Then we discovered that the 5-gallon bucket of joint compound, which we keep in an uninsulated storage room, had frozen solid! Dave and I are bummed to miss out on the help, but maybe they can come back and help with the painting.
We recently decided to put a bar sink in the pantry. We have read that it is a great idea to have two sinks in a kitchen, and several friends have confirmed this. It will also help us because we will have 1-2 weeks when we will have the cabinets installed but will be waiting for the counters and main sink. So we took M&C up to Home Depot in Greenfield and bought a bar sink.
UPDATED TIMELINE: The plumbers will come on February 20th to "rough in" the work. That means they will set up the piping to where it needs to lead in the new kitchen. They will also fix miscellaneous problems with our plumbing. That means no more leaky pipe in the basement and a much improved hot water system!
The cabinets have been ordered and will take about 4 weeks. This week we will meet with the electrician to finalize the electric plan.
